Staff Engineer · Brightline

Daniel wrote iOS apps in Objective-C, then Swift, for six years before joining Brightline's platform team, where he now owns the shared TypeScript libraries that 40 product engineers build on. Both jobs taught him the same lesson: a good type system catches the bug before the customer does.

He is the engineer people call when a type has grown into a puzzle nobody can read, and his fix is usually smaller types with honest names, not cleverer ones. In class he works through real failures, like a refund sent twice or an optional that crashed on launch, and shows the type that would have stopped each one.

Learners get his test for types that earn their keep, and the confidence to delete the ones that don't.

“I show you the bug first and the type that would have caught it second, so every pattern arrives with a reason.”
